SCP Registry Hold Annual Review Meeting
Seated (L-R): Hon. Justice Batema (Resident Judge, Iganga High Court), Hon. Justice Kiryabwire (Chairperson, Smalls Claims Procedure Implementation Committee), HW Mastula Mulondo with other participants at the review meeting

The Chairperson Small Claims Procedure (SCP) Implementation Committee, Hon. Justice Geoffrey Kiryabwire, chaired an annual review meeting for courts under Iganga High Court Circuit, at Kaliro Country Resort in Kaliro.

The meeting was called by the Small Claims Procedure Registry, under the leadership of HW Mastula Mulondo, for implementers to share best practices, challenges and chart a way forward for improved performance.

Hon. Justice Kiryabwire urged the Judicial Officers to be mindful of their statistics' submissions because it's the only way the Registry will assess performance.

He further appreciated the Chief Magistrate Iganga HW Koboko Epobu Daniel for having recovered more than Shs200million through SCP and most of it at a demand notice level, and serving as a good example.

Hon. Justice Batema in his remarks, noted that the Procedure is very straightforward and therefore they should look for a way to make it a success in their jurisdictions.

The meeting was attended by at least15 Judicial Officers and key staff in the implementation of SCP under Iganga High Court Circuit.

During plenary, it was realized that the major challenge most courts face is that of companies trying to beat the SCP rules by using proxies to sue on their behalf.
